Climate Highlights

In 2018, we made important progress in minimizing carbon emissions for our customers and for our own company.

Climate action is part of our 2018 – 2020 Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI). The SSI covers 21 impacts that align with United Nations (U.N.) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together with the global community, we are working to alleviate poverty, protect the planet, and bring about global peace and prosperity.

Here are our key climate initiatives for 2018 – 2020:

  • Creating energy savings for our customers with our EcoStruxure platform
  • Making a rapid shift toward renewables

EcoStruxure: bridging IT and OT for sustainable growth

Schneider's  EcoStruxure platform is an essential part of our promise to reduce our customers’ CO2 emissions by 120 million metric tons by 2020. EcoStruxure is our IoT-enabled solution that increases operational and energy efficiency. It gives our customers extensive visibility and control over energy use, thus empowering them to pursue sustainability goals.

How Schneider EcoStruxure solutions drive sustainability
  • Digital tracking vastly improves monitoring and reporting of energy use, carbon reductions, and sustainability performance.
  • Customers using EcoStruxure have reduced carbon emissions by up to 50%.
EcoStruxure Energy & Sustainability Services

Schneider partners with clients to design, implement, and track successful energy management strategies. These projects are built on strategic energy sourcing, renewables transactions, energy efficiency improvements, and the EcoStruxure platform. EcoStruxure Energy & Sustainability Services are instrumental in our commitment to reduce our customers' CO2 emissions by 120 million metric tons by 2020.

Making an iron-clad commitment to renewable energy

Iron Mountain is a global leader in storage and information services, operating more than 1,400 facilities in over 50 countries. Along with Schneider, it's a member of the RE100 initiative, a commitment among the world’s leading companies to use 100 percent renewable power by 2050.

Here’s how Schneider EcoStruxure Energy & Sustainability Services helps Iron Mountain achieve its RE100 goal and manage energy sustainably:

  • Evaluating and negotiating large-scale power purchase agreements around the world, such as a recent 145 MW wind power deal in the U.S.
  • Analyzing 1,100 Iron Mountain sites to report on and manage a wide range of emissions
  • Identifying substantial savings opportunities in the complex energy landscape, ensuring sustainability goals drive business needs

When you consider the sheer amount of electricity required to power our entire operational portfolio, it’s truly remarkable to hit these milestones in a ‘business-positive’ manner that reduces utility expenses, stabilizes rates, and reduces the business risks associated with fossil fuels.

A global turn toward renewables

Every day, all over the world, Schneider is adding solar, wind, and other renewable sources to its energy mix. But our prosumer vision extends beyond on-site generation measures.

We also added green tariffs, renewable certificates, and power purchase agreements for a comprehensive, “all-hands-on-deck” decarbonization strategy. These measures, aside from their environmental necessity, also minimize energy supply risk and deliver long-term energy savings across our value chain.

To reach our goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, we harness our own products and solutions. We monitor and manage our energy use in over 250 sites using our own technology — EcoStruxure Resource Advisor, controllers, inverters, and more.

We also harness the expertise of our EcoStruxure Energy & Sustainability Services team to deliver this transformation.

Steady progress in changing times

  • On-site solar projects ongoing in all regions
  • Green tariff opportunities progressing in Europe and South America
  • Renewable certificates secured with the support of EcoStruxure Energy & Sustainability Services

On-site solar in China

In China, six new on-site solar arrays were commissioned in 2018. These arrays are expected to produce over 2,000 MWh of renewable electricity each year — the same amount of energy created by burning 1.5 million pounds of coal.2
